10 tips for getting your motorhome or caravan out of storage!

Spring is approaching: get your motorhome or caravan ready for the new season! The sun is shining more often and crocuses are popping up everywhere. You can feel it: the camping fever is back! Spring is approaching, and that means the camper or caravan can finally come out of storage.

But before you can enjoy a safe, comfortable and carefree camping holiday, it is important to check that everything is still working properly. That is why we have put together a handy checklist with 10 tips to get your motorhome or caravan ready for the new season.

Tip 1: Check the condition of your motorhome or caravan

We start the checklist at home with a brief observation. Don’t forget to take your caravan mirrors and, if applicable, the detachable tow bar with you to the storage area.

When you take your camper or caravan out of storage:

  • Walk around it and check the exterior for scratches or damage that may need to be repaired.
  • Clean the ball of the tow bar with benzine and sand it lightly.
  • Check the power strip for corrosion.

Tip 2: Check the status of your battery

To reactivate all the systems in your motor home or caravan and to be able to use the mover, the battery must be reconnected. But how full is your battery? Does it need charging? Avoid surprises with E-Volt! This handy module allows you to see at a glance how full your battery is and what the current voltage is. You can even set up a warning message: as soon as the battery is almost empty, you will receive a message on your smartphone. Good to know: E-Volt is suitable for any type of battery and helps you to prevent unexpected battery failure. Do you have a camper van? Then don’t forget to charge the battery before you leave!

Tip 3: Check doors and windows

Open and close the doors and windows a few times. Pay attention to the following points:

  • Are all hinges still properly secured, or do they need tightening?
  • Is the rubber still intact, so that moisture cannot enter?

Then it is time to check the roof hatch. Check it thoroughly, because an open or loose roof hatch can come off while driving, which can cause a life-threatening situation on the road. So this should definitely be on your checklist!

Do you often have doubts on the road about whether the doors and windows are properly closed?

With the E-Switch you can be sure! This smart module shows you whether each door, window or skylight is open or closed. Ideal for a carefree holiday!

Extra handy: The E-Switch is easy to install and gives you constant insight into the status of your doors, windows and skylight via your smartphone.

Tip 4: Check your tyres

After months of inactivity, it is essential to check your tyres. Although the profile does not wear down while your motor home or caravan is in storage, the quality of the tyres can deteriorate.

  • Rubber dries out over time, which can cause cracks and damage. Check that your tyres still look good.
  • Check the tyre pressure – if the pressure is too low, it can lead to higher fuel consumption and faster wear.

Make it easy on yourself with the E-Pressure module!

With the E-Pressure sensors, you can easily screw a sensor onto each valve and read the current tyre pressure per tyre directly on your smartphone or tablet. This will help you avoid unnecessary wear and tear and ensure you are always safe on the road.

Also remember to:

  • Check the tyre pressure of your spare tyre.
  • Check the age of your tyres using the DOT code (the date of production is on the side of the tyre).

Tip 7: Check the correct drawbar load

Is your caravan correctly loaded? An incorrect weight distribution can cause your caravan to sway, which can lead to life-threatening situations on the road.

Ensure a safe journey with E-Load!

With E-Load, you can easily read the current drawbar load via your smartphone or tablet.

  • Do you get a message that the nose weight is too high or too low? Then move your luggage and adjust the load for a stable and safe journey.

With the right nose weight, you can set off on holiday safe and carefree!

Tip 8: Check the breakaway cable, brakes and lights

  • Breakaway cable: Check whether the steel cable of the breakaway cable is still intact. The breakaway cable ensures that the caravan’s handbrake is automatically applied if the towbar coupling comes loose – an extra safety measure on the road.

💡 Did you know that the breakaway cable is often incorrectly attached?

  • Brakes & lights: Check that the brakes are still working properly and test your brake, dipped, indicator and reversing lights. Defective lights can not only be dangerous, but also result in a fine.
  • For campers: Don’t forget to check other car-related items such as oil levels and tyre pressure.

Tip 9: Tools and spare parts

It is always wise to bring basic tools and spare parts with you.

  • Do you have everything together, or have you forgotten to put something back?
  • Don’t forget to bring spare (button cell) batteries for our modules.
